As many of you already know, April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It’s an important month because it’s a time to focus on communities and organizations that play a vital role in protecting children and strengthening families. Increasing participation in the national awareness campaign is critical to making true change.
These contributions can start small and modestly: from participating in a road race in support of prevention and awareness, like the Chicago Quarter Marathon; wearing blue as we did on Wear Blue Day, April 8, or throughout the month; planting pinwheel gardens; or spreading the word on social media, these small acts of advocacy can inspire greater awareness and action. We cannot underestimate the good each of us can do by connecting with families in need. Your support and sharing resources are key factors in preventing child abuse and neglect.
What remains clear is that we continue to have the great support of community and corporate partners in championing our youth and mission. One of the newest members of our extended family, Mosaic, held their very first event at our Chicago Village last month. We look forward to the many great things they have planned for 2016. And it’s thanks to your encouragement and participation in our #OurHopeTheirDreams mural campaign in March, made possible by our partner Wintrust Financial, that allowed us to reach two of our three goals and see continued growth in our audience and network.
Our story of hope doesn’t end here, though. The need for continued awareness and support of our young dreamers is ongoing. We strive to support and encourage our youth’s dreams and aspirations. You can be a part of this on a monthly basis, by becoming an One Family Illinois Dream Maker.
We thank you for everything you are doing to spread awareness. Together we can inspire action and impact change in our communities.
