The brutality of systemic racism that has plagued this nation has once again been revealed. Those in power cannot take the lives of others without righteous indignation and protest.
To remain silent and allow such acts of hatred and division will only make us less as a people and a nation. Our voices must be strong and united.
Now more than ever, we as a Village must reflect on how we will speak and act at this time.
The mission of One Family Illinois is first and foremost a mission of healing. It is a call that amidst chaos, uncertainty, and pain, we can stand on our principle that love is enduring. This love is one that calls forth our human and spiritual resources to envision a people where justice and equity flourish for all.
This is a moment for us to dialogue with each other and most importantly the children. Our voices must first denounce the injustices.
We are the many in this world who announce that authentic love is lasting. And so, I ask each of us to have these essential conversations in our homes. Find ways to speak and act against injustices that can heal and cure.
We must let everyone, including the children, experience their dignity and the goodness in the world.
The words of Nelson Mandela are never truer than today when he said, “it is in your hands, to make a better world for all who live in it.”
I trust and pray that your hands and hearts can join me to heal our brokenness and create the better world we all long for and deserve.
United in our mission and in hope that together we will make this a better world.
