Women’s History Month 2023: Women’s Conversation Series

Women’s History Month 2023, One Family Illinois embraced the spirit of celebration and empowerment by organizing a Women’s Month Conversation Series. The series featured a kickoff event with guest speaker poet Lesle Honore followed by three engaging panels, each highlighting the remarkable achievements and perspectives of extraordinary women across various sectors, industries, and life experiences.

The first panel focused on women in the public sector, boasting an impressive lineup of panelists, including Jacquelyn Dortch (Deputy Director of Child Services, DCFS), Juatise Gathings (Regional Operations Director, Discover Financial Services), and Monica Gordon (County Board Commissioner, 5th District). Their insights into navigating the challenges and triumphs of public service inspired everyone in attendance.

Another riveting panel turned the spotlight on women in entrepreneurial spaces, showcasing the entrepreneurial prowess of individuals such as Brooke Foley (CEO, Jayne Agency, LLC), Stephanie Hart (Owner, Brown Sugar Bakery), Sashe Ivy (Owner, Pink Hard Hatz, LLC), Britt Julious (Writer, Essayist, Editor), and Clarita Santos (Executive Director of Corporate and Civic Partnerships, Health Care Services Corporation). Their stories not only illuminated the path to success in the entrepreneurial world but also underscored the importance of women’s voices in shaping diverse and innovative business landscapes. The dynamic discussions resonated with the audience, fostering a sense of empowerment and community among attendees.

The final panel brought together accomplished women in health and non-profit sectors, featuring esteemed panelists Shelley Long (Community & Employee Engagement, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois), Dr. Suzet M. McKinney (Principal & Director of Life Sciences, SterlingBay), Nicole R. Robinson (CEO, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago), and Dr. Renee E. Walker (Senior Director, Community Health Initiatives and Program Development, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital). Their collective expertise shed light on the pivotal roles women play in healthcare and non-profit organizations, emphasizing the positive impact of female leadership.

The Women’s Month Conversation Series served as a platform for fostering connections, celebrating achievements, and championing the invaluable contributions of women across diverse professional arenas.
