One Family Illinois continues the very important conversation about children in foster care this May with its #Voices4FosterCare campaign by sharing the news that the HBO Documentary FOSTER debuts Tuesday, May 7, at 7:00 p.m. (CST).
By helping others begin to understand the complexities of the foster care system in the United States, we raise awareness for children in out of home care, their needs, and work to ensure the safety of each child.
Producer Deborah Oppenheimer and writer-director Mark Jonathan Harris created this documentary to look at a number of stereotypes that face the foster care system in the U.S. For a year, the documentary captured footage of children in the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, the largest county child welfare agency in the country. Oppenheimer and Harris set out to make a movie that was compassionate and hopeful, but realistic.
Mark Harris shared, “This is a community that needs support, and we hope that people will look at the film and see that it is a reflection of the larger social issues that we as a society need to deal with.”
Please share this premiere with your friends, as this helps us continue the conversation about children in foster care. For more information on FOSTER, click here.
