In celebration of the beginning of another academic year, on September 13, 2021, One Family Illinois staff, Foster Parents, children, and volunteers gathered at the playground of our newly constructed Roosevelt Square Community Center for an afternoon jam-packed with football-themed activities, treats, and plenty of laughter. Among the buzz was the anticipation of the arrival of a special guest who would be paying a visit to our unique Illinois foster care agency: Chicago Bears’ Safety Deon Bush. Deon spent time talking with each child, autographing backpacks, and reminded our children that it all begins with school.
A Moment of Victory
As inspirational remarks were shared by Chicago Bears’ Safety Deon Bush and One Family Illinois CEO Tim McCormick, another message of thanks was offered by one of our bright young girls. “I knew what it took to score, but I didn’t know the support needed to win. I learned that it takes a whole team to win. Well, we live on the Village, and it takes a lot of people in order to make the process that allows us (the children) to win. One Family Illinois has developed a team to help us succeed. Mr. Bush, as you come to support and help us reach our victory, we want to say thank you for joining our team and helping us win.”
Giving Back with Backpacks
We are immensely grateful for the ongoing support of Deon Bush and the Chicago Bears. Not a stranger to our Villages, Deon has visited the Chicago Village on the south side of Chicago the last two years sharing Thanksgiving meals with our families. And, we look forward to see him back here in November, once again, to kickoff the holiday season at our Villages.
